From an early age, Gillian’s favourite question has been “why”? In particular, she wanted to understand the world around her; to gather information and to use that information in making the best possible decision.
In choosing law as a career, Gillian realized she could use her own understanding to benefit other people and to help them navigate their circumstances in times of difficulty. A summer internship in Ghana working for the Commonwealth Human Rights initiative reinforced the importance of law and legal information.
Family law was a natural fit. While working Dalhousie Legal Aid during her final term of law school, Gillian realized how little information people had about their rights within, and at the end of, their relationships. Recognizing that family law affects everyone, Gillian believes she can make a difference by practicing family law with a focus on providing clear and understandable advice.
Gillian began working at Sealy Cornish Coulthard as an Articled Clerk in 2016, becoming an Associate in June 2017.
Originally from Hunter River, Prince Edward Island, Gillian now resides with her husband in Middle Sackville. She received her Bachelor of Arts with honours from Acadia University in 2011 and her Juris Doctor degree from the Schulich School of Law (Dalhousie) in 2016.
Gillian spent her last year of law school focusing primarily on family law, including a placement at Supreme Court (Family Division). She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, where she is active in the Family Law section.
When not at the office, you can usually find Gillian at the barn with her horse, Emery or hanging out with her Golden Retriever, Carmen.
