The new face at SCC is an old hand in the practice of law. Starting November 1, 2012, Don Murray joins us with his established criminal justice defence and adjudication practice. All three SCC partners have known Don throughout his quarter-century career and we’re delighted to have such a well-regarded senior lawyer on board.
Don primarily represents individuals and companies charged with a range of criminal and both federal and provincial regulatory offences. He often deals with individuals charged with the most serious offences in the Criminal Code, including life imprisonment homicide offences. For the past decade, Donald has also been called upon to serve as a Board of Inquiry under the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act, and he is currently serving as an Adjudicator under the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement.
Speaking about his practice, Don says, “A lot of my work involves mediating the pain that almost inevitably afflicts people who are caught up in a legal proceeding. Whether a person has been accused of criminal behaviour that threatens her liberty, or needs to make a claim for a rights-based injury, the person wants to be able to exercise some control over the process. That is my work, and the benefit that I attempt to provide to my client and to others engaged in the process.”
Watch for Don’s full bio coming soon to our practice team pages. In the meantime, you can reach him at dcmurray@scclaw.ca.
